Everyone welcome - new members and past, present & future members!
Our Fri, Jun 17 meeting will feature Rhodochrosite - Inca Rose.
The Mid-Hudson Valley June Meeting will feature guest speaker Derek Yoost.
The power point presentation will be on one of his favorite minerals - rhodochrosite.
Rhodochrosite is a manganese carbonate mineral, with its purest specimens displaying
a beautiful rose-red color. Derek will discuss the scientific properties of rhodochrosite,
talk about and show us the varied forms that this coveted material can appear,
and tell us about the ways people carve, grind and polish it to be used in jewelry
and other objects of art. He will also show us some of the famous sites this mineral
is collected. Derek will be bringing to the meeting some very fine specimens of
rhodochrosite for us to see and inspect.
